Challenge overview

Global, future-facing and with sustainability at its core, Dassault Systèmes is well equipped to support the United Nations mission to build a more sustainable world. In 2018 Dassault Systèmes was ranked first in the Corporate Knights Top 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World index.

Our vision of sustainability is strongly aligned with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). That's why we've selected four SDGs linked to industries served by Dassault Systèmes for you to get to work on!

Select your goal

Today we're giving you free access to develop your skills on our industry-leading design software, with support from our community of experts. Register for the challenge and use what you learn to create a project addressing one of the four SDGs below:

How can we propel the clean fuel and technology revolution?

Energy generated by non-renewables such as coal, gas and oil accounts for around 60 per cent of total global greenhouse gas emissions. You can help build a sustainable future for our planet by using your #SkillsForSustainability to improve access, affordability and reliability of modern and sustainable energy sources.

How can we make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable?

The number of people living in urban areas is expected to grow to 5 billion by 2030. The challenges raised by urbanization include congestion, a shortage of adequate housing, declining infrastructure and increased air pollution.  Use your #SkillsForSustainability to improve the cities and communities of tomorrow.

How can we do more and better with less?

With the world’s population projected to grow to 9.6 billion by 2050, the equivalent of almost three planets could be required to provide the natural resources needed to sustain current lifestyles. Earth’s natural resources – including water, energy and food – need to be managed more sustainably. Build your #SkillsForSustainability and help improve resource and energy efficiency.

How can we conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources?

The world’s oceans are vital for sustaining life on this planet. They regulate global systems that make our planet habitable, including our climate, food and oxygen. We must act now to reduce marine pollution, address the impacts of ocean acidification and end destructive fishing practices. Could your #SkillsForSustainability help to build a sustainable future for our oceans?

From June to October 2020 you can register as an individual or a team of up to 5 people via the link below. Choose which software experience best suits you from the two proposed and create your 3DEXPERIENCE ID. Use your ID to access the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and EXPLORE the many cool things you can do using Dassault Systèmes solutions. Check out the onboarding and technical videos, and connect with the Student Community to start developing your skills with insights and tips from the experts. If you already have access to Dassault Systèmes solutions, you can still join the Student Community, and jump straight to the INNOVATE stage. The Explore stage will remain open right up until the end of the INNOVATE stage to allow as many students as possible to create a team and enter the challenge.
The call for entries opens in September. You’ll need to submit a short questionnaire about your idea, the SDG it addresses, and how you plan to use the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to bring it to life. We’ll give you more details about  the evaluation criteria in the ‘INNOVATE Brief’ ,which will be emailed to all registered individuals/teams and will also be available in the Student Community at the beginning of this stage. You can find the questionnaire here. You have until 30 October 2020 to complete the INNOVATE stage.
All participants who successfully submit the INNOVATE questionnaire will be invited to a series of one-week bootcamps in November 2020, where you will be able to develop your expertise before finishing your project. Dassault Systèmes experts and mentors will continue to support you via the Student Community. You’ll be challenged to complete a number of tasks to show off your skills and you'll have until the end of December to submit your final project for evaluation by our panel of industry experts.

Up to 7 prizes will be awarded at the end of the LEARN & DEVELOP stage, with the top prize going to just one individual or team.

  • Top prize awarded by the panel of judges to the most innovative or impactful idea (maximum of 5 members in the team)

The winning team will get the chance to meet some of the world’s greatest innovators. You’ll pitch your project in front of a panel of experts during one of the most important Dassault Systèmes events of the year, either at 3DEXPERIENCE World in February 2021, or at the ASEE Annual Conference in June 2021. Don’t miss this opportunity to make a global impact with your great idea!

  • "Best use of 3DEXPERIENCE platform" prize (maximum of 5 members in the team)

This prize will go to the individual or team whose project demonstrates the best use of the chosen solution.

  • "Dassault Systèmes employees" prize (maximum of 5 members in the team)

Awarded following a vote by employees across the company.

  • Four "United Nations Goals" prizes (maximum of 5 members in the team)
