Modelling the explosion impact on the nuclear power plant safety shell
A safety design project
Hong Kong SAR China
PROJECT TIMELINE
Potential missile attacks pose a severe threat to today's infrastructure, mainly nuclear power reactors. This project is focused on examining the design safety of a nuclear containment subjected to a simulated near field missile impact or shock wave impact of an explosive. The containment under such impact bursts out pressurized gases inside it, which makes it a highly complicated design to simulate. Therefore, our current goal is to build a model that captures the nominal results of the impact on the containment. However, this project comes with a continued interest in building a model that best replicates the interactions between the internal and external environment of the containment during impact.
