Simulation Of Lumbar Spine - APSSDC
Bio-Mechanical Simulation of the Spine
India
PROJECT TIMELINE
we generated a 3D model of the Lumbar Spine and we simulated with non-linear axial loads. This model has many applications mainly to examine the biomechanical function of the spine, spinal performance in healthy, diseased or damaged conditions and also to validate the design and performance of the spinal implant.

This model has many applications mainly to examine the biomechanical function of the spine, spinal performance in healthy, diseased or damaged conditions and also to validate the design and performance of the spinal implant.
The FEA of the bone under various loading conditions is helpful in the evaluation of the disease as well as in predicting future risk of fracture. A model of the spine can be used to investigate the risk of fracture in the vertebrae and the progression of degeneration in the intervertebral discs.
Finite element analysis (FEA) is used to study the stress-strain behaviour of any solid material. It allows a new design to be thoroughly 'tested' before a prototype is even manufactured.
Multi-sliced CT scan of the lumbar spine was obtained under standard condition. Poisson’s ratio of 0.3 and Young’s modulus of 12000MPa for the cortical bone.
It has wide range of applications in many sectors like Bio-mechanical and analysing the post-surgery.
